Backup Files from Dead Windows Computer

Got windows registry error on my vista yesterday..Just format it,i say in my mind..but what about the files in my hard disk?need to back them up..especially my well comp assignment..after surfing and searching, i found a solution..using ubuntu..

1. first you need an ubuntu disk..i got myself 3copies of that,sent to me by ubuntu,all the way from Netherlands back in 2007..old version,so i downloaded the newest version from here.
2. Burn it on blank cd,and boot it..choose “Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer”.
3. choose Places and click Computer from the menu.
4. plug in your USB drive and start the transfer.
5. done.

well,after transferring my important documents and my 50gb download folder(which in the end 30gb of that deleted),playing around with ubuntu..linux illiterate like me,only last like 1hour,then switch back to windows os..

and now back using xp until the download server back..then switching to vista..

100th post..congrats to me…my first post, Feb 12, 2008..more than a year,and only 100post..that is understandable as blogging is only my past time activity..and who ever notices,since 29July,i post a new entry daily…just to get over the 100th post mark..want to go down the memory lane? what changed?well,got my own domain now,although i still saving hakimalias.com for the main page,and making the blog as hakimalias.com/blog..main page still on the way..my current photoshop skills are quite low and amateurish,and that’s not going to change anytime soon so expect the main page to be online at the end of this year…

the 101st post will be a wee bit personal..so stay tuned..

Dear diary.It’s me again.

dear diary,

taking a break from well completion assignment..tired pressing ctrl+c and ctrl+v much..thanks to irsyad,who mysteriously appeared in my room around 9pm today,i was informed that the assignment have to be 20pages,destroying my hope to complete it by tonight..do u like my new theme?bluish and not very complicated..i’m going for more professional looks..yesterday is an interesting day,mainly at night..going out for dinner at salam thanks to musab and his new car..today,on the way to PCS, saw a group of people wearing masks,then another group,then another…staffs of UTP start distributing the masks today it seems like..got myself 2masks,one at pocket C and one at duyung block when visiting my quarantined brother..heard a lot of news,universities closing due to this pandemic…scary it is as it claimed its 4th victim here in Malaysia..hope nothing bad happened here,and at my home..H1N1 put the fear of god into people..ok then,continuing assignment…or not…my bed are calling me..later,me diary..

dear diary,
its a cold day today,with the rain,and the sun nowhere to be found.the kind of morning perfect for some alone time.but i have 2hour lecture on oil and gas industries at LH1 today,so no more sleep for me..cold shower in the morning,it feels so refreshing..raining outside,LH1 is quite far,went there with matyo’s kancil along with stopa,musab and tengku.lecture is packed with juniors,with the back row occupied mostly by PE jan07..went running to block 19 after the lecture,registering the CM matlab..full,all the slot are..so i register myself in the friday group,with only alif as a familiar face..went back to my room,and sleep..pretty much sleep is what i do until 9pm..first class of political science..going to C2,walking alone in the dark..spent 30minutes there before realizing the class actually at D1..great way to start the first class.pretty interesting class for me,but its quite hard to answer the final exam i presume as no lecture note will be given.ah,interesting class and interesting lecturer,but i afraid i have to follow others,if they drop the subject,i will too..
